By Oswald Wynd. This is the book which launched his career as a writer. The story centres around a young western-eduucated Japanese woman (Omi Tetsukoshi) who returns to her country just before WW2 to find it changed and even her normally liberal-minded family caught up in the nationalistic fervour. One of the minor characters in the story, a British soldier (Peter Jones), represents, I believe, the author, who was imprisoned in Japan for part of the war. |
